The last common Hamsters
A Film by David Cebulla
For nearly three years, wildlife filmmaker and ecologist David Cebulla observed wild European hamsters. His aim was not only to learn more about the species but also to document why these farmland dwellers are globally threatened with extinction. David traveled from the western edge of their range in France, through Germany, Poland, Austria, and Hungary, to the eastern border in the Kazakh steppe. Along the way, he captured fantastic, unique footage. However, as the project progressed, finding wild hamsters became increasingly difficult.
