In the central Apennines of Italy, one of Europe’s most endangered mammals is facing new threats: the Apennine chamois. By the end of the Second World War, only a small group of around 40 animals had survived relentless hunting. Almost 80 years later, the golden-fleeced chamois are reclaiming their former habitat. Yet they are once again under threat. Climate change is altering the ecosystems of central Italy and, with them, the entire life cycle of the chamois.
